The WX300 series splitters are compatible with a Category I Quick-Hitch. However John Deere iMatch hitches may require bushings on the pins, which are available from John Deere dealers. In some circumstances, the hoses may need to be extended in order to reach the tractor’s hydraulic couplers.

The WP200 series processors are not compatible with a Quick-Hitch.

The MX25, MX50 and MX80 paddles are welded on and are not replaceable. The MX130 standard beater bar paddles are bolted on and are individually replaceable.

The optional top beater bar on the MX130 uses weld–on paddles that are not replaceable.

The buckets have replaceable pin-on teeth. They do not have a replaceable cutting edge.

Our horsepower ratings are based on gross engine HP.

Neither the WP200 series nor the WP800 series hydraulic system has enough capacity to operate extra hydraulic attachments.

This can be done. However, care must be taken to avoid shoveling too much in at once. The shredder will clog risking equipment damage. The same applies to leaves as well.

All models except the FX35 feature a transport lock. The transport lock is a dog-and-pawl arrangement. The dogs are teeth cut into the outer rim of one of the cable spool ends. Pulling the rope pivots the pawl to engage the dogs, pulling the rope again disengages the lock. The transport lock can be used to tow logs while driving, or to prevent the cable from freespooling if the clutch rope is let go while winching logs uphill. The frame includes tow hooks as well.

Wallenstein does not support any modification at all to any of our models. Any modification can compromise the safety and function of the machine. It also voids warranty.

The rotator and head are designed to handle the power of the Wallenstein grapples we install them on. The increased hydraulic pressure and flow rate of an excavator can damage our components.

The rotator and head are designed to handle the power of the Wallenstein grapples. The higher hydraulic pressure and flow rate of an excavator can damage our components.

This is not recommended for two reasons. Excess cable, either in size or thickness can cause the cable to loop off the sides of the spool or not wrap properly, causing damage and possibly injury. Also, winch pulling capacity actually decreases with the number of cable wraps on the drum, or the thickness of those wraps. The drums and cable are sized to work together safely and efficiently.

Three-point hitch kits are suitable for heavier tractors that can handle the forces put into the hitch by a backhoe. Lighter-duty tractors may not be built strong enough to handle these forces. We recommend using a subframe whenever possible. It distributes the forces through itself and the tractor.

Wood chippers and chipper-shredders are designed to work with wood and brush. Shredders will also work with leaves and vines. We have not tested them on other materials, nor do we recommend doing so.

Wood chippers are designed to be strong enough for both the capacity and the tractor or skidsteer power required to run the chipper. A small chipper will not be able to handle the forces put on it by a large tractor. A large chipper will not work efficiently with a small tractor.

The design of our backhoes and mounting kits allows the stresses caused by digging to be shared between the backhoe, the mounting kit, and the tractor or skidsteer. Using a different sized backhoe will prevent these forces from being distributed evenly. Concentrating stresses in one area will result in failure of the backhoe, mounting kit, or the tractor or skidsteer.

Grapples are designed to be strong enough for the lift capacity as well as the power and size of the tractor or skidsteer. A small grapple will not be able to handle the forces put on it by a large tractor or skidsteer. A large grapple will take up too much of the lift capacity as well as create stability issues with a smaller tractor or skidsteer.

This is not recommended. If the winch is smaller than recommended, damage to the frame and clutch components can occur. If the winch is larger than recommended, carrying problems with the 3-point hitch, tractor damage, or clutch slipping and burning can occur.

If brakes are desired, the proper model must be ordered from the factory. It is not feasible to add the brakes in the field.

The BT5300 is only available as a factory-installed option. It is not feasible to install after the backhoe is assembled.

We do not recommend using horizontal splitters in the vertical position.

The rotator has a freewheel function which acts as a shock dampener when rotation is stopped. It cannot be locked solid.

No the rototaor cannot be locked. It has a free-wheel function which acts as a shock dampener when rotation is stopped. This also allows it to rotate when skidding logs around corners.

We do not recommend the modifications required to use these models in the upright position.

The frames of models not equipped with the Log Lifter do not have the required mounts or strength to fit a log lifter.

The grapple and trailer can be purchased separately. The base grapple includes stabilizers that aid in mounting on our log trailer, 3-point hitch kit, or custom mounting on a customer’s truck frame or trailer.

The outlets are live while welding, but the voltage is too low and unsteady to be useful.

Unfortunately, this is not possible. The winch and extension boom are only available from factory.

The winch and the splitter can be operated at the same time without loss in pressure or speed.

We do not offer the winch as an accessory. We only offer the factory “W” and “PW” versions of the log loaders.

This depends upon the style of subframe. The hitch cannot be used with the bellymount style as long as the subframe is installed. The hitch can be used with the 4-Point subframe once the backhoe is unhooked.

This depends upon the Subframe. Not all Subframes are compatible with mowers. Please see the Subframe List on our website, it will tell you if the Subframe for your tractor is compatible with a mower deck.

The Kubota engine used in the DK7300E features a glow plug. The smaller Kohler engine used in the DK5000E does not.

The electric trailer brakes have a breakaway switch that applies the brakes in the event the trailer becomes unhitched from the tow vehicle. A battery pack provides electrical back up power in the event the electrical harness also becomes unhooked as well.

These grapples will not work with a quick-hitch.

Only the MX130 and the MX130T feature the cleanout function. The apron chain is on high speed but the beater bar is off.

Our backhoe buckets are designed and built by us to fit our backhoes only. They will not fit any other manufacturer's backhoes.

Wallenstein does not currently manufacture a generator with an inverter or AVR. We do not recommend using our portable generators to run sensitive electronics.

We do build some thumbs for other manufacturer’s backhoes. However, all of our thumbs are very specific to each model of backhoe listed. They will not fit other backhoes.

We do offer the BT5250 universal weld-on thumb. It is designed for compact tractor or skidsteer mount backhoes only. It cannot be used on industrial backhoes or excavators.

The BX42H does not have a clutch or a case drain. The hydraulic hoses for the motor feature a checkvalve protected parallel circuit which allows the rotor and motor to wind down together once the hydraulic power is turned off. This prevents damage to the motor.

We do not offer automatic or remote-start kits for our generators.

It is very important to discuss your requirements with your dealer before purchasing a backhoe in order to obtain the most satisfaction from your equipment.

  1. Determine the horsepower rating of the tractor or skidsteer the backhoe will be mounted to match up with suitable models.
  2. Consider the hydraulic system type and hydraulic flow (gpm) of the power unit. This will determine if additional hydraulic options are required to make the backhoe operate properly.
  3. Identify which mounting kit is required.
  4. Pick one of the available colours you like.
  5. Determine which size bucket you require.
  6. Finally, order everything required.

Please note that backhoes, mounting kits and buckets must be ordered as separate items.

If you intend to use the generator as home backup, around the home, or recreational use, choose one of the Backup Power Series. If you intend to use it on a jobsite as a contractor, choose one of our Jobsite Rated series. The other considerations are size and particular features required.

There are 4 main choices to consider:

1) TYPE: Do you require an engine-powered model or would you prefer to power it off your tractor or skidsteer?

2) POWER: Most wood can be split by a 20-ton splitter. However, hardwoods with gnarled, twisted grains, such as those that often grow up along a fence line may require a splitter with a higher splitting force.

3) ORIENTATION: Vertical 3-point hitch models, inverted skidsteer models and horizontal-vertical woodsplitters are very helpful when the wood being split is too large or heavy to lift onto a log bed. The Log Lifter fitted to some of the WX900 series models is also helpful in this regard.

4) SPLIT LENGTH: Do you require 24”, 36” or 48” lengths of split wood? If you are interested in a trailer model, consider how much wood you intend to spilt, is it for commercial or rental use, does towed equipment require lights and licensing where you live. If available in your chosen model, a “T”, or Tall version of the splitter can raise the working height to a more comfortable level. The horizontal / vertical splitters can also help in this regard.

The hitch tongue telescopes slightly and is the actuator for the brake master hydraulic cylinder. When the tow vehicle slows down, the trailer tries to continue at the same speed. This compresses the tongue and applies the brakes. The brakes have a freewheel function which releases them when backing up. There is also a lockout which can be used in rough terrain that prevents the brakes from being applied when the trailer is bouncing.

The Articulating Tongue Kit provides an extra pivot point in the trailer tongue that allows the tractor and trailer to turn tighter, for example on tight bush trails. The pivot is controlled by a hydraulic cylinder making the pivot rigid, for example when reversing. The cylinder is controlled by the tractor remote valve lever.

The Auto Cycle system is controlled by the splitter valve. The valve has two handles – one controls the cylinder extension, and the other controls the cylinder retraction. To operate the Auto Cycle function, move both levers into the detent position. The detent holds the handles in the open position and the cylinder extends.

When cylinder is fully extended, pressure buildup inside the extension section of the valve will kick the lever into neutral and send fluid to the retraction section to retract the cylinder. When the cylinder is fully retracted, pressure buildup inside the retraction section of the valve kicks the lever into neutral and the cylinder will stay in the retracted position until the valve is manually operated again.

The levers may be operated individually to extend or retract the cylinder without using the Auto Cycle function.
.

The auto-idle controller monitors the power wires to the outlets for current passing through them. When it senses current in the wires it means that a load is being powered, and it allows the engine to run at full throttle. If it does not sense current passing through the wires, it means there is no draw on the generator and it energizes a solenoid to close the engine throttle. This is particularly helpful in situations where the generator is powering electric tools.

The backhoe accessory kit includes the necessary hoses with colour-coded couplers, hydraulic cylinder, greasable pins, bucket linkage chain hook and hardware. The bucket must be ordered separately. The BA201 replaces the rotator, clevis and grapple head assembly. The cylinder mounts to lugs which are part of the dipper boom. The BA201 plugs into the rotator control circuit. Quick couplers are included in the grapple hoses on the side of the dipper boom to make this easy. Please see the online Accessory Installation and Operation Manual under MANUALS> LOG LOADER & TRAILERS> MANUALS for more information.

The trailer bunk posts are removable. The mount posts for the box use the two rear post mounts, and is hinged there. The box rests on the trailer spine. Because the dump box is intended to be used with the backhoe kit, the box is raised by the supplied chain and the clevis on the on the backhoe bucket pin.

The optional end gate acts as a tailgate, preventing material from dropping out in unwanted areas, such as when transporting. It folds out of the way when not required.

On the MX50 and MX80, the end gate is operated manually. On the MX130, the end gate is operated hydraulically. The necessary hoses and fittings to connect to the tractor are included with the spreader.

The optional fines pan holds the material at the beaters until it is chopped fine enough to exit. It folds out of the way when not required.

On the MX25, MX50 and MX80, the fines pan is operated manually. On the MX130, the fines pan is operated hydraulically. The necessary hoses and fittings are included.

The trailer bunk posts are removable. The mount posts for the flat bed use the two front and two rear post mounts.

The FX35 features a hydraulic 2-speed winch. It requires 2–12 gpm hydraulic flow from the tractor instead of PTO power. It is operated by a valve mounted to the side of the winch frame. The engagement is by sliding gear and has 3 positions: High–Low–Neutral. Neutral is freewheel, so the winch does not power out. A friction pad riding on the outer rim of the cable spool prevents the drum from freespooling out too fast, which would cause tangling of the rope.  There is no transport lock, so the chain hooks in the frame must be used for towing logs.

The drive system is a ratchet arrangement. The drive plate has ramped teeth formed into the face and is splined to the hub. The driven plate, or receiver, has square holes cut into the face to accept the driver teeth, and is keyed to the axle along with the apron drive sprocket. The two are held together by a spring.

Each wheel has its own ratchet. Pulling the spreader forward causes the teeth to engage the holes and drive the apron chain. If one wheel is turning faster than the other or turning backwards, such as in tight turns, the outside wheel will continue to drive the apron chain while the ramps on the inside wheel cause the drive to slip. When reversing, both ratchets will slip and prevent the apron chain from moving. Slipping ratchets will cause a clicking sound as the drive teeth slip in and out of the receiver.

The Intellifeed system works by measuring the rotor RPM. Once the rotor is up to the programmed start speed, the electronic control module allows forward feed when the feed control handle is placed in the “forward” position. Once both conditions are met, the control module signals the solenoid on the forward / reverse valve to shift into forward.

If the rotor slows down too much, then the control module signals the forward / reverse valve to reverse to pull the wood away from the rotor, giving the rotor the opportunity to speed up. Once the restart speed has been reached, forward feed resumes.

Reverse can be manually controlled with the feed control handle as well. The system allows reverse as long as there is electrical power to shift the solenoid and hydraulic flow. The rotor does not have to be turning for reverse to work.

The auger accessory kit includes the auger and the necessary hardware. It replaces the grapple head assembly and mounts to the rotator shaft. Please see the online Accessory Installation and Operation Manual under MANUALS> LOG LOADER & TRAILERS> MANUALS for more information.

The Quick-change Bucket Adapter makes change up easy when you have two or more different-width buckets. It mounts in place of the bucket with two hooks to secure the bucket pins.

The lower hook clamps the bucket pin in place using a bolt. Simply use the backhoe controls to pick up the bucket then tighten the clamp. This eliminates the need to drive the pins out with a hammer and punch when changing buckets.

Keep a set of pins installed in each bucket that will be used to permit the quick-change.

Remote winch operation is identical to regular winch, except for engagement. A hydraulic cylinder is used to rotate the actuator. The cylinder is controlled by an electric solenoid valve. The valve is controlled by a remote receiver through a relay. The receiver is controlled by a key fob-sized transmitter. Two buttons must be pressed simultaneously to operate the system. The clutch is in Neutral (freewheel) unless both buttons are pressed and held.

The system is powered by the tractor. FX-R models require 1–2 gpm hydraulic flow and 12 V, 5 A electric power from the tractor. FX-R models come standard with hoses and Pioneer Ball-style couplers. The wiring harness requires a plug end so that it  can be wired in to match the specific tractor (white is positive, black is negative).

A bypass switch is included in case of emergency. It is a momentary (push and hold) toggle switch mounted to the outside of the wiring junction box. Activating it bypasses the transmitter, the receiver and the relay allowing the operator to reel the cable in. It still requires electrics and hydraulics to operate.

The skidding plate is 3-point hitch attachment designed to skid logs from places the tractor cannot get to. The tractor’s 3-point hitch is used to lift the front end of the log off the ground. The frame provides a backstop to prevent logs from hitting the tractor, and can be used for pushing logs when piling. A receiver type trailer hitch is provided to tow light trailers.

The top of the grapple head has a cam plate which rotates with it. A spring is hooked to the plate. As the head rotates, the spring stretches and can then pull the head back to center. Center position of the head is front-to rear, but a pin which engages holes in the cam plate allows it to be locked in center position, or at 90° to either side for lifting and placing a log. Care must be taken not to rotate the head with the lock engaged, as this will damage the rotator shaft and cam plate. The LXG 320S, 330S, 420S and 430S incorporate a shear bolt to limit damage. The LXG210S does not.

The winch clutch is a dry-disc design. PTO input power is transferred to the upper sprocket by chain. The face of the upper sprocket is machined and has the friction material bolted to this face. This acts as the drive plate. The cable spool end face is machined and acts as the driven plate.

The cable spool slides back and forth along the shaft on FiberGlide bearings. The two are kept apart by 3 cup springs. The clutch actuator is made of 2 steel blocks with 3 decreasing-depth ramps machined into the mating face of each one. Each ramp has a steel ball. One block is held stationary, the other rotates.

Pulling on the engagement rope rotates the inner actuator block. As it rotates, the balls riding in the ramps push it away from the stationary block. This pushes the cable spool along the shaft until it is pushed against the friction pads on the drive plate, which causes the drum to turn. Clutch slippage and burning will result from the rope not being pulled hard enough.

A brake pad riding on the outer rim of the cable spool prevents the drum from spooling out too fast, which would cause tangling of the cable.

The extension cylinder is not intended for pushing or pulling logs. It is only intended to extend the reach of the grapple, when required. When using the pushbar, ensure that the extension cylinder is retracted.

Yes, a loader is required for two reasons:

The first is that the loader on the front of the tractor helps balance the weight of the backhoe mounted on the rear.

The second is that the loader bucket acts as a 3rd stabilizer taking the weight off the front tractor tires when digging,

Modern engines are designed to run most efficiently at full governed RPM. Therefore, our engine-powered equipment is designed to run most efficiently at the same RPM. Running engine-powered equipment at less than full throttle is counterproductive. Engines usually require a moment to warm up enough to accept full throttle and load.

There are many differences between the self-feed versions and the roller-feed versions. The feed hoppers, the mountings to the rotor housing, the rotor housing themselves and the rotors are all different. It is not possible to add roller feed to a self-feed chipper.

On normal engine-powered generators, voltage fluctuates with engine RPM. This is harmful to computers. We do not recommend using our portable generators to run sensitive electronics.

The listed capacity is heaped.

It is not feasible to add Auto Cycle to a model that does not already have it.

Three-point hitch models are more economical to purchase, operate and maintain, and are easier to transport around a property and through a bushlot. Their disadvantage is that they require a tractor to operate them.

Trailer models are more easily transportable from site to site. Their disadvantage is that they are more costly to purchase, operate and maintain due to the engine, pump, tires, and lights (if equipped).

Wood chippers are better for larger diameter brush. The larger chips they produce are better for pathways, decorative use or simply blowing into a ditch. However, they can by clogged by small green brush.

Chipper-shredders are better for finer brush and plant material. The fine fiber they produce is better for garden bedding material, and so on. However, they cannot process larger-diameter material.

Diesel engines do not have an ignition or carburetion system. Because of this, they run cooler with less maintenance. Diesel engines will run longer on the same amount of fuel, so they are less expensive to operate. Diesel fuel is also less flammable, so it is considered safer to use. Diesel engines are built heavier to withstand the stress caused by the high compression ratios required to ignite the fuel as well as the stresses caused by their heavy-duty use, so they are tougher and last longer. They operate most efficiently at 50% load for long periods of time. For these reasons, a diesel generator has the advantage on construction sites and mines where they are required to operate lights, heaters, pumps and so on day and night.

The Intellifeed system allows the engine and chipper to work more efficiently by ensuring that the engine does not get bogged down by feeding too quickly. This allows a smaller engine to be used. It also removes the necessity of having someone at the feed control bar at all times.

The roller feed arrangement allows adjusting the feed speed to prevent bogging the tractor on a 3-point hitch model, or the engine on a trailer model.

The feed rollers pull in brushy material that jams in the feed hopper of a self-feed model.

The feed hopper is lower and level, making it easier to put wood in.

The LX95 and LX115 are base models. The “P” versions add a single auxiliary valve to run an extra function, such as the hydraulic sliding axles on our “A” and “HA” versions of the log trailers. The “W” versions add the auxiliary valve and the hydraulic winch to the base model. The “PW” versions add a 2-spool auxiliary valve and the hydraulic winch to the base model. One valve spool operates an extra function, the other operates the winch.

The LT30 and the LT60 are base models that include a clevis hitch and off-road tires. The “A” version is available on the LX95 only. It adds brakes and a hydraulically-adjustable sliding axle to the base model, useful for adjusting the trailer balance for traction and tongue weight. The “H” versions replace the clevis hitch with a ball hitch and add lights and brakes to the base model. The “HA” version, available on the LX95 only, adds the hydraulically-adjustable axle to the “H” version. Please see the appropriate catalogue places.

Diesel engines are much more costly to purchase. They are much heavier to lift and move around. Also, they are not environmentally friendly with noise, odour and exhaust emissions. Diesel engines require pressure and heat to ignite the fuel, so they require at least 50% load at all times to run efficiently, otherwise the engine will suffer reliability issues. For these reasons, diesel engines are not recommended for use as home backup.

The big disadvantage is the cost and complexity of the hydraulic drive components and the electrical components of the system. Some consider it a disadvantage that the hydraulic system requires constant flow of fluid from the tractor, or from our optional PTO pump kits. The electronics also require 13.5 volts and 1.5 amps from the electrical system of the tractor on a 3-point hitch model.

The big disadvantage is the cost of the hydraulic drive components. Some consider it a disadvantage that the hydraulic system requires constant flow of fluid from the tractor, or from our optional PTO pump kit on a 3-point hitch model.

Wallenstein backhoes require constant hydraulic flow from the tractor or skidsteer. The specific requirements vary with the backhoe model. Please see the Catalogue or the online SpecBook for exact requirements.

Our backhoes come standard with hoses and ball style couplers, with the exception of the QC620 which comes with Flat Face style couplers. Backhoes are set up for use on tractors with open-center hydraulic systems.

The pushbar is designed to help guide the direction of tree fall when felling.

The chip size varies widely for several reasons. The species of wood, grain, moisture content, size of wood, feed rate, rotor RPM, knife condition, and clearance between the rotor knives and the ledger knife are all factors.

Generally speaking, the chips are 1/4" to 1" wide X 1/4" to 2" long X 1/8" to 1/4" thick.

We offer a number of options, such as PTO Pump Kits, Flow Divider Kits and Closed Center Kits, to ensure that you can operate a Wallenstein backhoe on your tractor or skidsteer. The GE and GX series backhoes use a 2-lever joystick control valve with the ISO (Backhoe or John Deere) control pattern. Conversion to the SAE (Excavator or Cat) pattern is not possible.

Hydraulic accessories, such as the Telescopic Dipperstick on the GX920XT, and the optional BT5300 Hydraulic Thumb are controlled by the left-hand foot using a foot pedal. A swing speed controller is located by the operator’s left shin.

The QC620 does not have a separate control valve. It is operated by the skidsteer controls.

The manufacturers of the diesel engines we use all recommend low or ultra-low sulfur fuel. A maximum of 20% biodiesel (B20) is also recommended. The quality of the fuel is important.

Always keep the fuel tank clean. Always refill the fuel tank from a clean container using fresh fuel from a reputable, high volume retailer. Please see your engine owner’s manual for specifications.

  • A 25 ft (7.6 m) work lead with clamp and Dinse-style connector.
  • A 25 ft (7.6 m) electrode lead with twist-grip style electrode holder and Dinse style connector
  • A welding helmet.

You will require a transfer switch that switches the neutral. Wallenstein generators have the neutral wires bonded to ground to meet CSA certification. Not all transfer switches work with bonded neutrals or GFCI breakers. Please consult a licensed electrician and the manufacturer of the transfer switch. Wallenstein does not provide transfer switches.

Normally the two windings in the alternator are wired in series, so that the total wattage is distributed through the 120 V and 240 V sides of the panel. The full power switch reconfigures the wiring so that they are wired in parallel. This allows the total wattage to be available at each of the 120 V outlets. This is helpful with motors that have a high starting requirement. The 240 V outlets are not useable when the full power switch is in the “120 V MAX” position.

The Load Monitor monitors and displays the total running time of the generator, the wattage being drawn from the alternator, and the frequency of the power supplied. The wattage being drawn from the alternator is equivalent to the load being put on the engine. Because diesel engines require at least 50% load at all times to avoid reliability problems, this is a valuable tool to ensure that the generator is being used to its maximum efficiency and reliability.

We use Dexron III Automatic Transmission Fluid. Dexron III does not change thickness with the outside temperature like hydraulic fluid does, resulting in more consistent performance and less possibility of damage to the pump.

These are Legacy Subframes. If a loader is not specified in the subframe list, it can be assumed to be an OEM loader, but we cannot state which loader with certainty. Modification of the loader mount plates may be required. On a bellymount subframe, these are the 2 plates that bolt in between the loader frame and the tractor casting they bolt into.

If your tractor or skidsteer is a new model not listed, please have your dealer contact Wallentsein with the details. A Subframe or Tieback Kit can be designed for it. Unfortunately we cannot do this for older tractors or skidsteers. Subframes and tieback kits are specifically designed for each tractor and skidsteer.

Please do not attempt to substitute a subframe or tieback kit which might fit. Damage to equipment may occur.

QPS safety regulations for portable generators require the neutral wires and ground wires be tied together (bonded) to the frame.

The PTO pump kit consists of a hydraulic tank with internal pump and filters, a drive pulley with a drive key and a taper bushing, a driven pulley, drive belts, and all necessary fittings and hardware. The drive pulley mounts onto the PTO input shaft of the rotor with the key and taper bushing. The driven pulley mounts to the pump shaft at the tank. The tank mounts to the chipper frame using slotted holes for belt tension adjustment.

All grapple models require hydraulic power from the tractor or skidsteer. Grapples come with required hoses and appropriate couplers.

The LXG 210S, 330S, 420S, and 430S require one set of remote hoses (one pressure and one return).

The LXG 320R and 320R require two sets of remote hoses (each with one pressure and one return). One set operates the grapple open / close, the other set operates the rotator.

The LXG 330RP, 420R, 430R and 430RP require one set of remote hoses (one pressure and one return) as well as 12V at 1.5A electrical power from the tractor or skidsteer. These models include a wire harness, switch box and cigarette lighter plug, as well as solenoid-operated valve(s). Default operation is open / close on the grapple head. Operating the appropriate switch(s) shifts the solenoid(s) to operate the rotator, the winch or the boom extension as required.

The Log Loaders do not come with any hoses to hook up to a power unit. They require one of our Power Source Options. The L101 Tractor Hydraulic Kit includes a flow divider and the necessary hoses and couplers to hook up to a tractor. The L301 and L601 Engine Powerpack Kits include the engine, pump, tank and the necessary hoses to run the log Loader. The L101 is included with our L400 3-point hitch mount kit.

Synthetic rope is much softer than steel cable and much easier to handle, particularly in winter. A longer length of rope compared to cable will fit on the winch drum. It wraps on the spool easier and does not have a tendency to kink. If happens to break, it does not have the tendency to recoil back towards the operator. Cut or broken rope strands do not puncture the skin. The keyhole sliders can be used with the synthetic rope.

The disadvantage of synthetic rope is that it abrades and can get cut more easily. This is a concern when pulling logs through dirt or over rock. It also means that the rope itself cannot be used as a choker; a separate choker strap must be used.

In the MX25, MX50 and MX80, the apron speed adjustment is actually a ratchet mechanism, which changes the amount of apron chain travel between clicks. Longer apron chain travel, which is consider the Fast setting, increases the amount of manure fed to the beater bar, thus increasing the amount of manure spread per pass. Shorter apron travel, which is considered the Slow setting, reduces the amount of manure fed to the beater bar, and thus the amount of material spread per pass.

In the MX130, speed adjustment is accomplished with a 3-speed gearbox which changes the apron speed. The Fast setting increases the amount of manure fed to the beater bar, thus increasing the amount of manure spread per pass. The Slow setting reduces the amount of manure fed to the beater bar, and thus the amount of material spread per pass.

The Biomass Kit is used when a more consistent chip size is required, such as when burning wood chips in a furnace for heat. It is a chip and twig breaker that bolts across the exit for the discharge chute from inside the rotor housing. It breaks up the larger chips and twigs until they are small enough to pass through. This allows the chips to dry faster and burn more consistently.

Chippers use 2-4 knives mounted to the face of a rotating disc. These knives work with a stationary knife mounted to the housing, to chip small pieces off the face of the log. These chips are about 1/4”-1” wide, 1/4-2”long. 1/8”-1/4” thick in size.

Chipper-shredders add 3 horizontal rows of flail knives to the rear of the rotor operating in a separate chamber of the housing. The flail knives create fine fibrous mulch. On the chipper-shredders, the chipper section is fed through the end and the shredder is fed through the top.

The “S” indicates Self Feed. These models have no mechanism to feed wood into the blades. The feed hoppers are angled up to allow gravity and the chipping action to feed wood.

The “R” indicates Roller Feed. These models have feed rollers powered by hydraulic motors to pull wood in and push it into the blades.

Any tractor within the “HP Range” will operate the chipper. However, the tractor will start bogging down or even stalling once the log size reaches about 75% of capacity unless fed very slowly.

Any tractor within the “HP Required for Maximum Capacity” will operate the chipper at full efficiency right up to full capacity.

The Bellymount style is a ladder frame that mounts at the front and the rear of the tractor. The 4-Point style has two halves. One half bolts to the tractor and stays with the tractor. The other half bolts to the backhoe and stays with the backhoe. The halves connect together with hooks and pins, making it a quick-attach setup.

The Jobsite Rated series features Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection, either on the individual outlets or at the main panel breaker. This is to meet federal safety regulations for jobsite use. The Backup Power series does not have this feature. Note that some transfer switches, and some sump pumps do not work with GFCI.

There are 2 types of hydraulic systems used on tractors – open center and closed center. The difference between the WX300 and WX300C models is based on the type of the hydraulic system on the tractor.

If your tractor has an open-center hydraulic system, then you require a regular WX300 model splitter. If your tractor has a closed-center hydraulic system, then you require a WX300C model.

The splitter will not work properly if fitted otherwise. The tractor owner’s manual or your dealer can tell you which type of hydraulic system the tractor has.

The "WE" series is our Economy line. It is intended for occasional use such as a cottage or home. The engine is a homeowner grade Honda GC version with a vertical shaft and a fixed throttle.

The "WX" series is our Heavy-Duty line, suitable for commercial, rental or constant use. The engines are commercial grade Honda GX versions. The frames use a heavier dual-rail construction.

Wallenstein welder-generators have a duty cycle of 50% at full current. This means that the operator can weld for 5 minutes straight, but then must allow the welder to cool down for 5 minutes in order to prevent overheating.

The extra hose on the cylinder provides the return fluid with a second route back to the hydraulic tank, as the cylinder retracts. This hose is connected to a normally closed dump valve.

As the cylinder retracts, the pressure used to retract it opens the dump valve providing a second route to tank for the returning oil. Doing this increases the speed of cylinder retraction, therefore reducing cylinder cycle time.

The maximum log diameter is twice the height of the splitter wedge. Because the wedge heights on our splitters vary according to the model, please see the SpecBook on our website for details. Click the link below.

The trailer splitters are narrow, light and do not have a suspension system. Therefore they bounce when being towed, particularly on rough roads. Because of this, we recommend a maximum tow speed of 50 mph (80 km/h).

The drawbar is rated for 7,500 pounds.

The screens hold the material in the shredder housing until it is fine enough to fall through. By changing screens the operator can change the final size of the shredded material.

The ripper tooth is a long single claw with a replaceable tooth at the tip. It is installed in place of the bucket. It is used to break up ground that is too solid for the backhoe to dig, such as heavy frost, clay, or rocky soil.

The welder-generators produce DC welding output suitable for SMAW (Stick) welding.

We offer 3 basic mounting options:

  1. Tractor 3-point hitch.
  2. Tractor Subframe.
  3. Skidsteer quick-attach plate with tieback kit.

Please see the online SpecBook for details on the different types of mounting kits.

We offer a number of options, such as PTO Pump Kits, Flow Divider Kits and Closed Center Kits to ensure that you can operate a Wallenstein backhoe on your tractor or skidsteer.

The first requirement is that the saw have 2 bar studs. The bar studs are used to fasten the saw to the mount. We recommend a 24” bar in order to take full advantage of the wood processor's 22” log diameter capacity. The mount is adjustable to accommodate up to a maximum 30” bar length.

To calculate your needs, consider everything that the generator could be running at the same time. Loads such as electric motors require several times more power to start than they do to run, so use the starting wattage. Calculate the total number of watts that the generator can be expected to provide. Purchase a generator that has a surge capacity that is above this. A generator that is too small will not do the required job and will have safety and reliability issues. A generator that is too large may have reliability issues, since engines are designed to run with a load on them.

Wallenstein alternators are brushless with full copper windings. They feature varistors to help with overheat protection, and capacitors to ensure proper voltage.

The Wallenstein alternator uses brushes and full copper windings. There are two separate windings—one for the electrical outlets and one for welding. The welding current is passed through rectifiers to convert the output to DC. The welder is protected by a thermal breaker, which resets itself after the unit has cooled down.

Because a backhoe replaces the bucket on a skidsteer, the digging forces run through the bucket cylinders and loader of the skidsteer, which will result in damage or premature failure in the skidsteer. The tieback kit takes these forces and transfers them to the skidsteer frame instead. Please note that the tieback kit is specific to the skidsteer model, and must be ordered as a separate item along with the Quick-Attach Plate. The exception to this is that they are combined for the mini-skidsteers.

There is much variation in the placement of tractor output shaft, and length of 3-point hitch arms. Because of this, we supply longer PTO shafts than may be necessary. Your Wallenstein owner’s manual contains instructions on how to measure and cut your shaft to the correct length.

The BX-R series of roller feed PTO woodchippers from Wallenstein are designed to run on either an open or closed center hydraulic supply from the tractor. However, please note that the chipper feed rollers should not be left in the STOP position for more than five minutes at a time on a closed center system. If the work cycle requires a stop of more than five minutes on a closed center tractor, the tractor should be turned off. Hydraulic flow requirements should be observed for either type of system. Too much flow will always generate excess heat in any hydraulic system.

The BX-RI series of chippers are not compatible with closed center tractors. To use a BX-RI chipper on a tractor with closed center hydraulics, order our optional PTO pump kits to make the hydraulics self contained on the chipper.

All the 3-point hitch chippers and chipper-shredders, with the exception of the BX102R model and its versions, work with a Quick-hitch. The PTO shaft and the hydraulic hoses may be not be long enough, depending upon the exact quick-hitch.
Wallenstein does not offer shaft or hose options. John Deere iMatch quick-hitches may require bushings for the pins, available from your John Deere dealer.
